Back-to-School Basics

Redeemer Lutheran School
Redeemer Lutheran School serves all of God’s people by providing a quality, balanced,
and Christ-centered education, nurturing children and families in our congregation and community.

Children in preschool through grade 6 will be exposed to the learning experiences of a lifetime at Redeemer Lutheran School of Westfield. With such a broad range of ages in
one school, your child will learn and develop in a nurturing, neighborhood-style setting
where there are always big brothers and sisters around to help them grow. Students in
the Early Childhood programs will discover multi-sensory two, three or five day-a-week
sessions that are designed to help prepare them for Kindergarten and the years beyond. Pre-reading, writing, mathematical activities and even some cooking are introduced as a way of encouraging five year olds to express themselves in the Kindergarten program. For older students in grades 1-6, Redeemer School makes a strong effort to keep the learning lively and meaningful as they work to develop the “whole” child. Academic subjects are balanced with computers, art, music including instrumental instruction, Spanish, Bible study, physical education including swimming and archery, and other hands-on activities. Field trips, and an assortment of special activities round out the diverse curriculum.

All academics are presented by a caring staff of N.J. certified teachers in small classroom
settings. As an added bonus, Redeemer Lutheran School makes it even more convenient for working parents to “get things done” by offering extended care both before and after school hours. Kids’ Clubs are offered after school and a fun-filled summer program is also available.

Solomon Schechter Day School of Essex and Union
Solomon Schechter Day School of Essex and Union is a co-educational, Pre K-12
Jewish Day School affiliated with the Conservative Movement. The School is committed to academic excellence and offers a balanced, well-grounded curriculum for both general and Judaic studies. Educating students to be intellectually curious, analytic, independent thinkers, our lower school campuses (Pre-K – 5) in Cranford and West Orange offer language arts, math, social studies, science, art, music, computers and physical education. The Judaic program focuses on Hebrew language, prayer, and the laws and customs of Shabbat and the holidays. The curriculum develops knowledge and understanding of the State of Israel and its people.

The Middle School (6-8) and High School (9-12), which are housed together in West Orange, offer a challenging dual curriculum and directed teaching. The exceptional educational experience at all our campuses is enhanced by a wide variety of community service programs, clubs, sports and after school activities. Mehina, a Judaic studies immersion program, is offered to students who have not previously attended a Jewish Day School.

This year SSDSEU is pleased to be able to place a day school education within easy
reach of Somerset County and the surrounding area, beginning with a first grade in September 2005. The School will be housed at Temple Beth-El in Hillsborough. The wonderful facility at Temple Beth-El will allow us to provide the same nurturing and
supportive environment found on our West Orange and Cranford Lower School campuses.

The curriculum will be the same outstanding and innovative integrated dual curriculum SSDSEU uses at both Cranford and West Orange, enabling our Somerset County students to explore new horizons in both Judaic and general studies. Recruitment is beginning now for our first and second grade classes for September 2006 for the Somerset Campus.

If you are looking for a warm, nurturing environment that instills children with the rich values of Judaism as well as a love for learning, consider SSDSEU.
