Back-to-School Basics

Tools of the Student Trade

• AN ELECTRIC PENCIL SHARPENER is a great tool to keep nearby. They cut down on frustration of trying to sharpen their own pencils and make it easy for the child to get back to their work.
• CALCULATOR—Upper elementary grades and above will need a good calculator. Check with the teacher for the recommended type.
• REFERENCE TOOLS—A dictionary and thesaurus geared to your child’s reading level are must-haves.
• STORAGE BOX FOR SUPPLIES—Lightweight plastic rolling drawers are perfect for organizing homework supplies and can be rolled into a closet or storage area when the kitchen table is needed for meals or entertaining.
• DRY ERASE/BULLETIN BOARDS—A great place to post papers and reminders.
• COMPUTER—While computers are a valuable educational and research tool, it is not recommended that your child should do all of his or her homework in front of a computer screen. If possible, have a separate computer space for research and computer projects.
• SUPPLIES—Stock up on the basics at your favorite discount store. Catch the before- and after-season sales for more bargains for home and school supplies. Younger kids will need crayons, markers, pencils, drawing paper, writing paper, folders, scissors, glue while older kids and teens need writing paper, college-ruled notebooks, pencils, pens, markers, folders, scissors, tape, stapler, combination lock and even a locker mirror.

Tired of Paying Too Much for Ink and Toner?
You can save up to 50 percent by bringing your empty inkjet and toner cartridges to Cartridge World. Cartridge World, the world’s largest re-filler and re-manufacturer of inkjet and toner cartridges, has two franchises that have been serving the Union County area for about a year. The first franchise was opened by Joel Kenderdine in Union and the second was opened by Norm Sobin in New Providence.

Both entrepreneurs believe that the Cartridge World model provides a “win-win” situation for all of their individual customers and commercial clients. The end user can save a great deal of money by recycling and refilling their existing cartridges. In addition, it’s a very environmentally friendly way to address the manufacturers high cost of ink and toner.

Cartridge World is an Australian company that was founded in 1991 and started franchising in the late 1990’s. Franchising in North America started in 2003 and there are currently over 300 stores nationwide and almost 1000 stores worldwide.

There are several options for having your cartridges refilled. You can bring your empty cartridge in and have it filled while you wait. Or, you can drop it off and pick it up later.

Additionally, Cartridge World can “swap” your empty cartridge for one that has already been filled and tested saving you time in the process.

For commercial accounts with larger volumes, both stores offer a free pickup and delivery service.

Finally, all Cartridge World refills come with a 100 percent unconditional guarantee.

They use only the finest inks, toners and replacement parts that are designed specifically for each individual cartridge.
