Mother Seton Regional High School
Mother Seton Regional High School of
Clark, founded in 1963, is a four-year girls’
Catholic regional high school of the Archdiocese of
Newark. The school is staffed by the Sisters of Charity
of Covent Station, NJ, and lay faculty members.
“Our school’s philosophy and mission
statements reflect a strong effort to empower young
women by providing them with a quality education within
the context of Catholic/Christian values,” says Sister
Regina Martin, Principal. “We have a strong academic
program with advanced placement courses, a Seton
Scholars program and
honors level classes incorporated into our college prep
program. One hundred percent of our graduates go on to
higher education! We are recognized for our strong
tradition of academic excellence and Seton spirit. We
are here to learn together and to pray together.”
Mother Seton is competitive academically
and athletically. The academic teams experience success
in the Catholic Schools and New Jersey mathematics
leagues, and the New Jersey science league. In the
National Current Events League competition the freshman
team has captured first place honors nationally and in
New Jersey as well. Our soccer and softball teams won
their division titles and our Forensics team has
sent competitors to the nationals each year.
“We are committed to the belief that
girls matter and that they deserve a school of their
own,” says Joan Barron, assistant principal. “Our focus
is on the student as an individual — encouraging her to
develop her potential in her faith, in her academics,
in her leadership skills as well as socially through
various activities. In addition, our programs encourage
the student to share her convictions with her classmates
and her teachers. Our mid-sized school fosters
individual attention and interaction between the faculty
and students. We know our students increase in
self-confidence as they experience success with us and
we see them mature into competent, caring, articulate
young women.”

Area Catholic Schools Plan Celebrations
The national Catholic Schools Week,
“Character. Compassion. Values,” illustrates
the belief that in addition to superb academics, a
child’s innate dignity and value is at the heart of all
of our Catholic schools. Development of character goes
hand in hand with development of the intellect.
“Catholic Schools Week is being
celebrated in a variety of ways throughout our
Archdiocese, reflecting the creativity and diversity of
our schools and also the rich heritage of Catholic
education in Bergen, Essex, Hudson, and Union counties.
These celebrations make a powerful statement about
Catholic education, where students
are learning to love and loving to learn,” says Trish
Fitzpatrick, Director of School
Marketing for the Archdiocese of Newark.
All around the Archdiocese Catholic
Schools Week plans are underway in elementary and
secondary schools. This special week celebrates the
unique relationship between Catholic schools and their
sponsoring parish(es), the community, parents,
volunteers, students, and faculty and staff.
Most schools begin the week-long
celebration with special liturgies giving thanks for the
blessings of Catholic schools. Many schools offer
retreats and encourage students to participate in
service activities to foster a strong connection between
school and community.
Academic competitions such as geography,
math and spelling bees are often held during Catholic
Schools Week.
In addition, many schools recognize their
principal, faculty, and staff through breakfast and
luncheon celebrations. Students are often given an
opportunity to highlight their talents in skits, plays,
choral events, and talent shows. Grandparents and
parents are celebrated for their contributions to
Catholic school and invited to participate in the life
of the school in various ways.
Catholic Schools Week is a great
time to celebrate the rich heritage of Catholic
education in the Archdiocese of Newark. Visit your local
school to see students who are learning to love and
loving to learn.
