SPRING HAS SPRUNG
The trees are starting to blossom, the birds are
starting to sing and the weather is starting to warm.
With the oppressive heat of summer just a few short
weeks away, its time to unwrap the pool, get the boat
ready for the water, and get your home ready for another
summer season.
The Richard Schoenwalder Group would
like to offer you a few tips on getting ready for the
summer.
Check all of your outside hose
faucets. When you go to connect your hoses, check
to make sure that there is no water dripping from the
spout. Even a little drip can add up to hundreds of
dollars over the course of the summer.
Call to have your air conditioning
serviced. Dirty coils, low Freon charges, and clogged
filters can have a tremendous impact on your cooling
costs. If the equipment is older, give us a call to do
an energy savings analysis. Remember: energy costs are
rising and there looks to be little relief in sight.
If you have no central air in your
home, look at the age of your window units. If they tend
to run a lot, are noisy, or they don’t seem to really
blow any cold air, look to replace or service them. If
you are looking to upgrade to smooth quiet comfort of
central air conditioning, The Richard Schoenwalder Group
can accommodate any home with a variety of cooling
solutions.
Check all of your outside light
fixtures and plugs. Be sure that any plugs are on GFI
circuits and your lighting has survived the ravages of
the winter.
These aren’t the only things to do in
the spring. Check all windows for drafts and leakage,
make sure that the drains for you gutters are clear,
check your sump pump, and if your water bill has gone up
substantially, check your toilets to see if they are
leaking.
The Richard Schoenwalder Group is
available to help you with all of your plumbing,
heating, cooling and electrical needs.

CORIAN, GRANITE, OR SILESTONE?
WHICH ONE IS FOR ME?
By Brian Fitzgerald, President
Wood-N-Dreams
You’ll find that one of the biggest
questions that people ask me about kitchens is, “Which
countertop should I pick?” Each countertop has its pros
and cons.
Maintenance is first on the list of
things to be considered. Corian is non-porous so any
stain that appears is a superficial one that can be
polished out with some basic household cleaners.
Silestone, which is 93 percent Quartz and 7 percent
epoxy, gives the appearance of natural stone without the
trouble of sealing it. Granite has a multitude of colors
to please even the toughest of critics. Some colors are
more porous than others, so depending on which color you
pick, you may have to seal the granite periodically,
from every six months to every two years.
The next deciding factor is
appearance. Corian is very consistent. From the smallest
of pieces to the largest, you can rely on the fact that
it will not change. Silestone is
almost as consistent, due to the combining of the epoxy
and Quartz. Granite patterns are as nature made them.
These are the two most common
characteristics of these style of countertops, but there
are many more. Cost, which is usually a deciding factor,
does not help a great deal
here because all three countertops are close in price.
Each one has a low end and a high end, which can make
one countertop seem more costly than another, depending
on the color you pick.
All in all, once we know how you are
going to use the top, the colors you like, and
your budget, we can tell you which countertop best suits
your needs.
