EXPLORE ALTERNATIVES TO EASE
DISORDERS IN CHILDREN
In this issue, I’d like
to address the messages we send our children when we
don’t take smarter steps ourselves to minimize the
damage stress causes us. Children learn by example.
It is not news that more
and more children are being diagnosed with pervasive
development disorders. What might be news is that there
is usually a family member or relative that is also
suffering but may never have been diagnosed. How many of
us go to our jobs and find ourselves unable to
concentrate, angst ridden and unable to stay on task?
The health care industry
typically prescribes medications, some addicting, to
help with these symptoms. My question: Why don’t they
suggest yoga, meditation, or massage before exploring
the magic pill path? The fact that insurance companies
pay for pills and doctors is simply not a good enough
reason for us to choose that path. The message taking
that path gives our children, truly frightens me for
their future.
In the long run, massage,
yoga and/or meditation are far less expensive when you
consider there is no downside to the experience. In the
end we will be made accountable for our choices for our
children.
In my opinion, “the
insurance company paid for it” is not going to be an
acceptable excuse. I always work financially with my
clients, young or old, when health is the reason you
have called.
Have a healthful day,
relax, smile and make good decisions.

MAINTAINING YOUR
WELLNESS
As you can see by the
topic of this month’s magazine, wellness is a popular
concept these days. Everyone is talking about
exercising, reducing stress and eating healthier. Health
is defined as the state of optimal mental, physical and
social well-being; not merely the absence of disease or
infirmities. Wellness is about feeling good, thinking
clearly, having healthy interactions with those around
you. It’s far more than a healthy diet, exercise, or
clean blood work can provide. If your blood work is bad
you’re already sick, if your stomach isn’t digesting
properly you may not be benefiting entirely from your
diet, and if you’re already in pain exercise can just
make matters worse. None of these things are bad for
you, in fact, they’re all really healthy habits to get
hooked on, if your body is working properly. When you
want to achieve optimum wellness, start with the system
of the body that controls and regulates the body.
Your brain and spinal
cord control and regulate your body. Since its
conception, chiropractic’s focus has been on achieving
and maintaining health through the adjustment of
vertebral subluxations. A subluxation is when vertebrae
lose their proper alignment and impinge nerves,
disrupting the normal communication between brain and
body. To achieve maximum health, it is important for
messages created by the brain to control organs, muscles
or tissues of the body, to successfully reach the target
area that they were created for. When this system of
communication is disrupted, malfunction occurs within
the body. Since the brain and nerves control everything,
subluxations can affect anything and everything.
Your body was made to run
like a well-oiled machine. Think of it like this: if a
part of your car’s engine is broken, putting in better
gas isn’t going to fix it, you need to first fix the
engine, then put in better gas to get better
performance. Or, when you build a house, you start with
the foundation; if it’s weak, then everything you build
upon it will be unstable. In seeking the best path to
wellness, start with the system of the body that
controls and regulates the body. Always remember to set
healthy goals for yourself, paying attention to diet,
exercise and proper rest, so you can get the best
possible performance out of your body, maintaining
health and wellness.
