LA FAMIGLIA SORRENTO

Beautiful landscaping and an inviting exterior beckon you to come in and “eat a little something” at La Famiglia Sorrento as you make your way down Central Avenue in Westfield. Once inside, you’re greeted by an open and airy dining area with a large window and colorful murals. The tasteful atmosphere simply whets your appetite for the food that follows. The restaurant’s signature dish is the “Original Tomato Pie.” You notice a difference without even taking a bite. Instead of shredded cheese, the pie at La Famiglia Sorrento is topped with chunks of mozzarella. This allows generous portions of sauce to peek through the cheese and makes for a tantalizing combination of textures on each slice. The sauce is made from a unique blend of various tomatoes, creating a taste that is lighter and more complex than the typical pizza sauce. But what truly makes the pie extraordinary is the dough, which is made from an exclusive 120-year-old recipe. “It is a recipe that has been in my wife’s family since 1870,” says owner Anthony La Ferrara. While it is hard to resist the tomato pie, the menu is packed with many traditional Italian entrées and pasta dishes. The lasagna, ravioli and manicotti are home made. The pasta is not complete without a side of meatballs, which are moist and flavorful. There are also heroes and subs to please the lunch crowd.

Hours are Monday through Saturday, 10:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m.
