B. KUBICK'S OPTICIAN AND HEARING AID CENTER

B. Kubick’s Optician and Hearing Aid Center is truly a family business, having been originated in the 1930’s by John Kubick. Peter Bartell, who is the third generation in the family to take over the business, says “It’s an honor to be working here. I take it very seriously that I am carrying on the family name.” Barbara Kubick Bartell, John’s daughter and Peter’s mother has been the owner of the store in downtown Westfield for the last 26 years, 7 of which Peter has been training and working with her.

Peter completed his education at Raritan Valley Community College and received his Optical Accreditation from the state of New Jersey. Both Barbara and Peter are licensed Dispensing Opticians and maintain their licenses by receiving the required amount of continuing education each year. Peter is also a licensed hearing aid dispenser and a member of the Opticians Association of New Jersey as well as the New Jersey Association of Hearing Health Professionals.

Virginia Greenlaw, who has been working with the Kubicks for 30 years, and is newly retired from opticianry, still works at B.Kubick, helping customers and acting as the general office manager.

B. Kubick’s offers eye exams and hearing tests for people of all ages and specializes in lens technology as well as hearing aids. “It’s all about service and making sure each customer is satisfied.” according to Bartell. This approach has obviously been effective as is evident by the many years they have been in business and the number of satisfied clients who keep going back.

SANTAMARIA EYE CENTER

The Santamaria Eye Center was opened more than 27 years ago by Dr. Jaime Santamaria. Today, with two locations, two board certified ophthalmologists and two
therapeutic optometrists on staff, the center offers a full range of eye care services, from vision testing, to contact fitting, to corrective surgeries.

Dr. Santamaria received his B.S. from Cooper Union School of Engineering and Science and in 1973 his M.D. from the College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University in New York. He is also a member of the Willis Eye Surgical Network and was named one of New Jersey Monthly’s “Top Doctors” in 2001. Having executed over 15,000 cataract operations, Dr. Santamaria is currently performing the most cutting edge cataract surgeries that enable patients to see without bifocals, utilizing intraocular lenses. He also performs the most current “bladeless” Lasik surgery.

Dr. Kenneth Darvin, Director of Retina Services and Attending Physician at Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center, joined the practice over ten years ago. A specialist in
the treatment of diabetic retinopathy, Dr. Darvin has personally performed over 4,000 laser procedures. He also provides a new treatment, just approved by the FDA, to help prevent further loss of vision in patients suffering from wet macular degeneration. Dr. Darvin received his M.D. from the State University of New York at Downstate.

Also on staff at The Santamaria Eye Center are Laila Colicchio, O.D. and Michelle Avergon O.D. Both are highly experienced in contact lens fittings and offer the latest technology in lenses, including silicone lenses. Dr. Colicchio also has significant experience in helping patients suffering from dry eyes to find relief utilizing a variety of techniques.

Operating out of two newly renovated facilities, one in Perth Amboy and one in Edison, the staff at Santamaria Eye Center offers the very latest in diagnostic and treatment options and their motto is “excellent vision comes from excellence.”

SHORT HILLS EYE & LASER

Short Hills Eye and Laser became a family operation three years ago when Dr. Andrew Miller joined his father, Dr. Edwin Miller, who started the practice over forty years.

The younger Dr. Miller received his BA from Columbia and MD from New York University. He completed his residency in ophthalmology at NYU as well and fulfilled a fellowship in corneal and refractive surgeries at Manhattan Eye, Ear & Throat Hospital.

Currently, Dr. Andrew Miller is a board certified ophthalmologist and member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, as well as the Society of Cataract Refractive Surgeons.

Specializing in refractive surgeries, such as Lasik, cataract and dry eye surgeries, Short Hills Eye and Laser also provide comprehensive eye exams for people of all ages, including prescribing lens and fittings for glass frames and contacts.

“We provide state of the art medical care in a very relaxed and supportive environment,” says Dr. Andrew Miller. True to his word, he performs the most current surgical procedures available, including the “no-stitch” surgery for cataract patients and “all-laser” Lasik surgery.

Although contemporary in the procedures he performs, Dr. Miller is old-fashion when it comes to his bed side manner: making a point of spending ample time with each patient, so they are provided with a thorough explanation of what’s going on with their eye health and what treatment options are available to them.

THE EYE CARE & SURGERY CENTER

In 1990, Dr.’s Ivan Jacobs and Joel Confino, both board certified ophthalmologists, joined together to form the Eye Care and Surgery Center. According to Dr. Jacobs, “we did this so we could offer our patients the most comprehensive and advanced eye health care available.” Today, the Eye Care and Surgery Center has three New Jersey locations in Warren, Westfield and Iselin. These two expert physicians were later joined by Dr.’s Milton Kahn, David Leventer, and Louis Furlan; each one bringing their own expert specialization to the practice to better serve their patients.

The physicians and staff of the Eye Care and Surgery Center offer a wide range of services from general eye care to specialized diagnosis and treatments for glaucoma,
retinal laser and diabetes care, pediatric eye care, and reconstructive and cosmetic surgery including Botox cosmetic and Restylane treatments.

At its dedicated ambulatory surgical center in Springfield, Dr. Jacobs and our other surgical specialists use the most modern techniques for a small incision, no stitch, no patch cataract procedure.

Refractive surgery has become a proven method for vision improvement. Dr. Joel Confino, a board certified corneal specialist with more than 20 years of experience with
refractive surgery, performs Lasik, PRK and other techniques to correct for nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism.

Each one of The Eye Care and Surgery locations offers a full service optical store featuring the latest in frame designs and styles for all ages. Our professional optical
staff are happy to suggest frame styles, colors and shapes to best fit your facial features and lifestyle. They are also pleased to feature the Nike MaxSight sport-specific
tinted soft contact lenses.
