LA FAMIGLIA SORRENTO

Beautiful landscaping and an inviting exterior beckon you to come in and “eat a little something” at La Famiglia Sorrento as you make your way down Central Avenue in Westfield. Once inside, you’re greeted by an open and airy dining area with a large window and colorful murals. The tasteful atmosphere simply whets your appetite for the food that follows. The restaurant’s signature dish is the “Original Tomato Pie.” You notice a difference without even taking a bite. Instead of shredded cheese, the pie at La Famiglia Sorrento is topped with chunks of mozzarella. This allows generous portions of sauce to peek through the cheese and makes for a tantalizing combination of textures on each slice. The sauce is made from a unique blend of various tomatoes, creating a taste that is lighter and more complex than the typical pizza sauce. But what truly makes the pie extraordinary is the dough, which is made from an exclusive 120-year-old recipe. “It is a recipe that has been in my wife’s family since 1870,” says owner Anthony La Ferrara. While it is hard to resist the tomato pie, the menu is packed with many traditional Italian entrées and pasta dishes. The lasagna, ravioli and manicotti are home made. The pasta is not complete without a side of meatballs, which are moist and flavorful. There are also heroes and subs to please the lunch crowd.

Hours are Monday through Saturday, 10:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m.

MY CUBAN ROSE

My Cuban Rose is the newest sensation in Northern New Jersey. Since its grand opening in June, this Kenilworth treasure has been receiving great buzz from its patrons. The family owned business blends a vibrant atmosphere with an authentic Cuban cuisine. Whether your heading out on a first date or a run-of-the-mill family affair, My Cuban Rose is the perfect choice for any occasion.

The brainchild of Ron Pedron, Rosa Pedron and Maria T Cruz, this family-oriented establishment is their first foray into the challenging restaurant industry. As children of
Cuban exiles, they were raised to love America and long for Cuba. Combining fabulous traditions, they opened this restaurant with those ideas in mind. Right out of the gate it seemed like they were born into the business. Open every day, My Cuban Rose is just the right mix of exotic and comfort that Kenilworth diners were looking for. Their Bring Your Own Bottle policy allows you to perfectly customize your already delicious meal.

What’s more, what would an evening of Cuban culture be without a fine cigar? My Cuban rose proudly offers fresh cigars using only the best tobacco leaves, hand-rolled to perfection. They are also opening an espresso bar that will serve guests looking for a delicious drink, take-out orders, or just a quick bite on the go. My Cuban Rose is open every day, so check them out!
